Focus on Wellness rather than Weight Loss

At The Century we place a high importance on the wellness of our team members and residents. We believe that physical and mental health are key to a happy work environment for our team members and a happy home for our residents.

It’s no surprise that weight loss is consistently the number one New Year’s resolution.  It may surprise you, however, that a measly eight percent of people who make a resolution are actually successful (Forbes).

Weight loss is a daunting goal. Rather than overwhelming yourself with the pressure of such a drastic change, break your overall goal up into smaller achievements that will set you on a healthier path and ultimately inspire long term change. Rather than focusing solely on weight loss, focus instead on overall wellness.

Here are some healthy starter goals for 2016:

– Drink more water

– Simplify your coffee (no sugar, syrups or artificial additions!)

– Cut out soda and fruit juice

The Century features a spa like fitness center allowing residents convenient access to state of the art equipment. An easy way to get started is to hop on a treadmill and try walking on an incline…you can even enjoy your favorite TV show while you walk!

‘Tis the Season at The Century

It’s the season of giving and as a long time Northwest company, Pillar Properties is committed to giving back to the community.  As part of our Pillar Passions program, we select a local organization to support each quarter.

We just wrapped up our efforts for Toys for Tots and the results were spectacular.

Each of our properties and the team at the Seattle office put together a huge effort to help ensure that children in need were supported this holiday season. We also received donations from outside companies since our properties were official drop off locations for Toys for Tots.

Our total donation for Toys for Tots this year comes to $40,000 in toys and cash.  We think that is an incredible effort and a ridiculously large donation given the size of our company. Thank you to all of the residents and team members who helped make this effort successful!

DSC_2319[1] (2)To continue with the spirit of giving, we made sure to give our residents a time to come together and celebrate the holidays with friends and neighbors. The Century hosted a Holiday Cocktail Party to spread the holiday cheer. Residents enjoyed appetizers and craft cocktails in a festive poinsettia filled room. The featured drinks of the night were Cranberry Manhattans  and Spiced Apple Cider Moscow Mules. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

We asked Property Manager Matt what he does to prepare for the holidays:

Matt 5

Matt said he thinks it’s important to take a break from all of your to-do lists and do something that makes you excited for the holiday season!

Matt suggests treating yourself to a festive showing of the Pacific Northwest Ballet’s new production of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker! He said it’s a specular evening for the whole family! For a more romantic evening, Matt suggests taking a stroll with your theater date to Palace Kitchen for a cozy pre-theater dinner.

Living the Dream at The Century

One of the great things about The Century is the community that’s formed among the people who live here.  It’s our pleasure to host events that bring everyone together.

We had our friends from Ardor Cellars in for a wine tasting event.  We have a number of residents who are quite knowledgeable about wine, residents who would like to learn more about wine, and residents who just know they enjoy drinking wine! This turned out to be the perfect event for everyone!

Residents gathered around to taste seven different wines and learn a little bit about the production of each individual wine. Everyone mingled as they sipped their favorite wine, snacked on meat and cheeses, and treated themselves to chocolate covered strawberries!

Ardor Cellars also graciously gave a discount on bottle purchases so residents could enjoy their favorite wine of the night in their beautiful apartment home later.

For the recent haunting holiday we had a Halloween Pumpkin Carving contest. Residents showed off their pumpkin carving skills and let me tell you, we were quite impressed! While everyone deliberated before casting their vote sweet treats were enjoyed in true Halloween fashion.

The winners grin was almost as big as his spook-tacular pumpkin.

The leaves and the temperatures are dropping so it was clearly time to celebrate with a festive Fall Feast…potluck style! Our residents definitely have some mad kitchen skills. Our feast included a little bit of everything; Chicken Tortilla Soup with all the toppings, pulled pork sliders, salads, wraps, kabobs, casseroles…you name it we had it! Of course it isn’t a feast without decadent desserts and a few fun drinks to wash it all down! It was a great afternoon sharing a rather large meal with neighbors!

Folds of Honor

Every quarter Pillar Properties selects a non-profit organization to support as part of our Pillar Passions Program.  As a locally owned private family company, we want to do all we can to make a difference in our community.

This quarter Pillar Properties is supporting Folds of Honor in their efforts to provide educational scholarships to the family members of American service men and women who are injured or killed in the line of duty.

For the month of September we partnered with the area golf courses to support this worthy organization. Pillar Properties purchased special Titleist Pro-V1 Patriot Golf Day golf balls to support Folds of Honor to give to our residents when they played at the participating golf courses.

We also had events at each of our properties to support Folds of Honor. Our incredibly talented maintenance team constructed a full-size miniature golf hole for our residents and team members to putt on. All it took was a donation to Folds of Honor to test your putt putt skills! Every hole-in-one made earned you a raffle ticket to win some pretty awesome prizes including gift cards, golf gear and swag from the 2015 U.S. Open!

The Folds of Honor event at The Century was a blast! Residents racked up raffle tickets with their impressive putting skills! We loved to see how thrilled they were with their prizes.

But of course, what’s an event without food! We served giant sub sandwiches with lots of tasty sides!

It was a great day putting for a great cause!

Brunch With a Punch

Weekends are for indulgences and at The Century we thought we would start the weekend off right by treating our residents to a Boozy Brunch on Saturday morning (leaving ample time for sleeping in of course).

Century Boozy Brunch

Century residents woke up to the comforting smell of freshly baked cinnamon rolls. All they had to do was head out their front door and grab a gooey pastry! Residents also had their choice of orange or grapefruit mimosas to perk them right up. Residents relaxed in The Century Hub and casually mingled as they sipped their mimosas with frosting covered fingers. It was quite the enjoyable weekend morning and that’s how we roll.  Get it?  Because we served rolls.

Puget Sound Business Journal’s WA Best Workplaces

We are incredibly honored that Pillar Properties was recognized as one of Puget Sound Business Journal’s 2015 Washington’s Best Workplaces!

Matt and the Mariner Moose!

The Century team along with the rest of the Pillar Properties team members took to Safeco Field at the Puget Sound Business Journal event rocking fabulous foam Pillar Properties cowboy hats to celebrate this truly phenomenal achievement! We had a great evening full of fun!

Way to go team!

Congratulations to the Team Pillar Award Winners

Pillar Properties strives to continuously recognize team members for their exceptional work and tremendous dedication to upholding the Pillar Properties core values.
